My Dog has Allergies
Your dog has been scratching, biting his feet, legs or tail, can’t
hold his bladder through the night and you’ve noticed a distinct change
in his personality. What could have caused this? You talk to your vet
and he tells you that your dog is suffering from dog food allergies.
What
are dog food allergies? Your dog is allergic to his food he’s eating or
something he is getting into. If you know it’s his dog food then it is
something they put into his dog food brand. It doesn’t matter if you’ve
fed him it for years or just started feeding it to him.
Something, in
his food is causing this. It could be the chemicals and food coloring
they put inside his brand. It could be the wheat or corn meal. Wheat has
toxins in it and is hard on a dog’s stomach. Corn can’t be digested by
dogs and is rough on them. It could be the chicken or beef also or the
hormones or chemicals they give to them that is causing problems.
Don’t worry, there is a treatment. It’s called hypoallergenic dog food.

Allergies Dog Food
Once you find out that your dog has allergies it’s time to get him some
hypoallergenic dog food. However, don’t give
it to him all at once. That would upset his stomach even more.
Over the next
two weeks, slowly introduce him to his new food. Mix a small portion into
his old food. Increase it every few days by a handful. This lets him get
used to it and is easier on his digestive system.
What if My Dog Won’t Eat It?
If your dog sniffs the food and then turns his nose up at it, decrease the
portions of the new brand and give it to him. He looks at you and his
soft brown eyes seem to say “I’m not eating that” then fix up a bowl of
kibble and put a small portion of dog food in it. Then pour some
drippings form a roast or duck into his bowl. Mix it well then feed it
to him. Most dogs would woof this down but if your dog is too
intelligent or stubborn to be fooled then here’s another idea that you
can try…
Home Remedies for Dog Allergies
To solve this problem of your dog not eating the brand of dog food you
bought for him you might consider making his food from scratch. Start
out small with only two ingredients such as bison and sweet potato. You
may want to feed him lamb with rice. He will enjoy it and within a month
or two these food allergies will be gone.
