WTF Just Happened?
I decided to write this review the day after the premier so it is fresh in my mind. The premier of the new show American Horror Story: Asylum was last night and after it was over I just sat there wondering what I just watched. Now before you say, “Oh you haven’t seen the original American Horror Story.” I have! I am a huge fan of that show even though it is so F***ed up. I think its because Jessica Lange was amazing in that show as Constance Langdon, a nosey neighbor with a hidden agenda and past. That show was different and refreshing in a world with Vampire and Doctor TV shows.
Anyway! Going into Asylum, I thought it would like a prequel to American Horror Story, but I just found out (2 seconds ago) that it is a completely different show! I wish I would have known that before…or maybe I missed it when they announced it? I don’t know. A lot of the people from American Horror Story are in this show, which gave you that feeling of familiarity.
The plot is pretty simple and familiar so far, Briarcliff is the name of the Asylum and was built in 1908 and was a former tuberculosis ward purchased by the Catholic Church in 1962, just two years before the events that unfold in the episode. Gross factor: 46,000 people died there, and their bodies were disposed of through an underground Death Shute. As it stands in present day, it’s almost completely abandoned. Legend has it that once you were committed, you never got out. Which is the same thing that happened in American Horror Story, only the spirits were less crazy. (No pun intended)
This show has every kind of crazy, the one that I was not expecting though was the guy who has abducted and had the microchip implanted into his brain. That’s also were it became a little too much for me. I can handle the weird crazy sex scenes that have happened but the chip was just too ridiculous to me. Sorry that I spoiled anything for you with that.
With this show and also American Horror Story, you have got to have an open mind. When you first watch it, yeah it’s going to be awkward and disturbing but under that lays a very interesting plot. Also the blood and guts are just enough to were it doesn’t make you want to vomit. It’s also so hard to believe that the same guy that created this, created Glee…
All in all, I wasn’t disappointed with the premier, a little confused maybe, but not disappointed! If this show is anything like American Horror Story, it will be too awesome to quit.
